Consultant Physician – Diabetes,Obesity & Endocrinology

Dr Rajeswaran is the lead Physician of simplyweight Ltd. He works as a Consultant Physician in NHS and leads the weight management service in Kirklees and Wakefield, West Yorkshire, U.K. He also provides specialist advice to the adult weight management service in Essex, U.K. He has a special interest in Diabetes and Obesity and is involved in a number of research projects.

He is the founding Chair of the National Diabesity Forum (NDF) and the Editior-in-Chief of the journal, Diabesity in Practice. He supports simplyweight and the Biggest Help on their global projects.

Dr Lisa Gatenby

Registered Nutritionist

Dr Lisa Gatenby, MSc; PhD is a Registered Nutritionist, with a PhD in Nutrient intakes and a Masters of Medical Science in Human Nutrition. She is a Registered Nutritionist, approved by the Association for Nutrition (who control the UK voluntary register of Nutritionists). Dr Gatenby started her career with a love of food and worked as a chef for 5 years followed by food development for 4 years before progressing into nutrition. Dr Gatenby has been working in Nutrition for the last 10 years and as well as offering consultancy services works in Public Health, she delivers lectures at various universities. Dr Gatenby helps people meet their goals whilst enjoying tasty and satisfying food.

Anita Bowes

Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian

Anita Bowes, MSc, PG Dip, BSc (1st class hons) is a UK Registered Dietitian with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Dietetic Association and Diabetes UK. She has a degree in Nutrition, Exercise and Health. She spent most of her training at Leeds Metropolitan University where she obtained a Post Graduate Diploma and Masters’ degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. She specialises in helping Type 1 Diabetes sufferers to manage their conditions, including carbohydrate counting, insulin pumps and continuous blood glucose monitoring. The prevention of Type 2 Diabetes is one of her main areas of research and has involved her developing weight loss/ lifestyle change programmes aimed at preventing the condition. She frequently presents at diabetes conferences and have several publications. She is caring and a non-judgmental practitioner and support her clients on each step of their treatment journey.

R. Ackroyd

Consultant Bariatic Surgeon

Mr. Ackroyd is a reputed Consultant Bariatric Surgeon working in NHS and the private sector in the United Kingdom. He qualified in medicine from Sheffield University in 1989. He trained in general and upper GI surgery in Sheffield and in Adelaide, South Australia. He is currently the secretary of the British Obesity Surgery & Metabolic Society (BOMSS).

Mr Ackroyd’s surgical practice offers a full range of bariatric procedures, including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion/duodenal switch, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and intragastric balloon insertion.

Dr Richard Aubrey

Clinical Psychologist

Dr Aubrey studied at Sheffield, United Kingdom. He obtained a 1st Class Honours Degree before undertaking a 3-year doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Dr Aubrey works in both the NHS and private practice. He offers psychological treatment to adults experiencing emotional and interpersonal problems. He has close links with Leeds University and supervises post-graduates undertaking the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Course. He has completed post-qualification training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Intensive Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (IE-DP).

Most importantly, the treatments that Dr Aubrey provides meet Department of Health Guidelines for clinical effectiveness.

Mrs V Costelloe

Bariatric Dietitian

Mrs Vikki Costelloe BSc (Hons) PG Dip is a Health Professions Council (HPC) registered dietitian specialising in severe obesity and bariatric surgery in both the NHS and private sector.

Vikki received a first class honours degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Northumbria and went on to obtain a Post graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds Metropolitan University. She has over 10 years experience working in the NHS and worked in intensive care and gastroenterology before specialising in complex obesity and bariatric surgery.

Her current role as Team Leader for the Weight Management Service and Lead Bariatric Dietitian at the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust involves running bariatric seminars and one to one clinic consultations. As well as this she also oversees specialist clinics for private hospitals and set up the successful MY Support group for patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Vikki is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Dietitians working in Obesity Management (DOM UK). She is also an affiliate member of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS) and the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS).

Mr M Ramasamy

Specialist Physiotherapist

Mohan Ramasamy grad­u­ated from the Bachelor degree phys­io­ther­apy pro­gram at the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR medical university, India in 1998 and com­pleted his Masters degree in Physiother­apy in 2002 in the same University. He has more than 15 years experience as a physiotherapist and worked in various specialities such as musculoskeletal , cardio respiratory and neurology.

Mohan has around 10 years of experience working with obese individuals with
or without muskuloskeletal , cardio respiratory and neurological problems . Over the last 3 years Mohan has been working in specialist weight management team of the Midyorkshire NHS hospital UK. He has an excel­lent back­ground in exercise phys­i­ol­ogy and is well versed with exer­cise pre­scrip­tion for the obese and superobese people.

He designs individulaised programmes for people with weight problem and those suffering from medical conditions like arthritis, asthma, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. He is also an expert in exercise prescription for people who have had bariatric surgery.

Matthew Haines BSc (Hons), MSc, FHEA

Exercise Physiologist

Matthew is an exercise physiologist and Senior Lecturer in Health and Wellbeing at the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom. He received a first class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science at York St John University before completing an MSc in Exercise Physiology at Sheffield Hallam University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and registered at level 4 on the Register of Exercise Professionals as an Obesity and Diabetes Specialist. He has worked as a personal trainer and exercise referral specialist for patients and clients with long-term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer in the public and private sectors.

Matthew is currently completing a doctorate looking at exercise guidelines in patients with impaired glucose homeostasis (impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance). In particular he is interested in approaches to exercise that might be more time effective than traditional government guidelines; for example, high-intensity interval training or HIT. He also consults for a company offering exercise and health industry vocational qualifications and has provided strength and conditioning support for a range of athletes (including tennis, marathon running, rugby league and swimming).

Dr Suveer Singh – FRCP; PhD; EDIC; DICM; FFICM

Consultant Respiratory Physician – Sleep Specialist

Dr. Suveer Singh is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, London, Honorary Respiratory Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London.

He is an experienced specialist in General respiratory disorders. His clinical and research interests include Sleep Apnoea, Insomnia, Cough, Asthma, Emphysema and COPD, bronchoscopy (EBUS), respiratory infection and post Intensive care disorders, breathlessness and respiratory failure.

Dr Singh is the lead clinician for Sleep Medicine, and Non invasive ventilation, Lead for perioperative respiratory assessment, Respiratory physician to the Bariatric service, director of Clinical Studies for undergraduate medicine, College Tutor in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine, former Secretary of the British Thoracic Society Interventional Pulmonology Special Advisory Group, NICE representative for Asthma guidelines, and Faculty of the International Advanced Bronchoscopy Course (Royal Brompton Hospital).

He is an active Clinical Teacher (undergraduate and postgraduate), examiner for the Royal college of Physicians and Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, and international Fellowship programmes.

He is an active clinical researcher, as a principal and co-investigator for multicentre trials of early diagnostic markers in pulmonary infection and sepsis, and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction in COPD. He supervises MD Fellows involved in academic research.

Cara Sloss

HCPC Specialist Dietitian

Cara is a HCPC Registered Dietitian, specialising in obesity management and sports nutrition. She is passionate about using nutrition to help people achieve their health and weight loss along with enhancing sports performance. Cara gained a first class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Strathclyde University and followed this with post graduate diplomas in Dietetics and most recently, Sports Nutrition.

Following time spent as an acute Dietitian, she is currently a member the multidisciplinary team in Wakefield Weight Management Service. This involves delivering a structured group programme, and one to one clinic consultations for those with complex and severe obesity.

Cara is a member and spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association (BDA), providing evidence based advice and comment to the media. She is a member of specialist groups Dietitians working in Obesity Management (DOMUK) and Sports Dietitians UK (SDUK).
